I experimented this issue with 3 different VHT SP 6, one prone to, one slightly depending on the speaker and another not at all, so i think it's mainly related with the OT wiring.Īnyway, lots of old amps (SE ones, Wattkins etc) were equipped with this kinda trick (conjunctive in most cases) In this case, the harshness is impedance-related, peak from the speaker translates to peaks on both side of the OT. Zobel filters were meant to flatten impedance curves in Hi-Fi loudspeakers, originally to let the passive crossovers do their job according to the mathsīut they are very very useful for us, along with their brother, the conjunctive filter (same thing, but on the primary side of the OT)īecause sometimes, an amp is harsh and you cant find a way to get rid of that, and when you try to sub the speaker or the OT you find that this harshness does not occur in all cases. What you see after the OT is a Zobel filter. Indeed, 320 volts is too much for these babies, but a 5W/50 volts Zener will drop your voltage easily (as in my VHT)ĭont' think so, as 47µf should be sufficient for such a tiny amp, and the hum does not vary with the volume pot.

I'm planning a PSE too (same reasons, obviously), will publish the schematic if you want (nothing tested yet) You can see a red box on the vid, but it's only a tiny attenuator, not in use. I tried to get the most gain you can with such a simple circuit, but i'm planning on a PSE with EC82 too, so 5-6 watts and.two triodes, just like in the VHT. You won't get this crunch with a Tele or strat. Here, it's only the guitar, she is really powerful, not because of powerful mic (a 9K Lollar P90 i modified with a A² magnet replacing one of the stock degaussed A5 so more on the vintage side), but because i optimized the electronic (1M volume pot, 50K tone with 15nf only PIO cap), and the input impedance of the amp is high. Yes i stopped with the VHT, it's perfect for me, i wil perhaps put a emulated line out, and that's all. My original idea was to use two tubes in push pull with a concertina phase inverter, and just a single triode preamp, but I was told that it would be not enough for guitar. But are those sound from guitar - booster - amp, or is it just the guitar and the amp? I ask because I expected less gain from just one triode stage. The sound of the video is good, I like it.

Other problem I had is that my PT puts out too much volts: around 320 if I remember correctly. I think it was because I used a too small enclosure. Sadly I had some noise (terrible) problems on the first try. I have the parts for a ECL82 amp, but I plan to use a parallel single ended design with two tubes, so I can double the output power.
#SINGLE 6AQ5 TUBE AMP MOD#
kleuck, did you stop modding your vht special 6? I posted some time on the vht mod tread on tdpri and you made, and reported, really interesting things.
